The Town of Greeneville and the Greeneville Fire Department proudly announce the promotion of Battalion Chief Eric Price to Assistant Chief, effective April 21st. With the upcoming retirement of current Assistant Chief John Craft on April 18th, Price will spend the next few weeks working with Chief Craft who will help him transition into the new position. The assistant chief assists with the planning, directing, and managing of the activities of the Fire Department.
Price has been with GFD for 19 years. During his tenure with the department, Price has excelled as a leader. Obtaining his Fire Officer III in 2024 in addition to being C Shift Battalion Chief, he is the Hazmat (Hazardous Materials Team) Coordinator for the department. Outside of the department, he is president of the local Firefighters Association, which is well-known for completing the annual Santa Treat Run on Christmas Eve.
Chief Alan Shipley said, “Eric’s strengths are his good business sense and solid community relations. Another positive is that Eric is even keeled. He remains stable and calm in a crisis, which is crucial in this calling. He will do a great job with the responsibilities required for this role.”
Price received his Bachelor of Science degree in organizational management and leadership from Tusculum University in 2008. He has completed Fire and Arson Investigation Programs through the National Fire Academy and completed the Greene County Leadership Program in 2020. Additionally, he completed Level 1 in the University of Tennessee Municipal Management Academy.

The Greeneville Fire Department has earned an Insurance Service Office (ISO) Classification of 2 utilizing four strategically located fire stations and the operation of two engines, one quint ladder, one 100’ tower, and one rescue engine.
