Special Response Team

The Special Response Team (S.R.T.) is a vital part of the Greeneville Police Department and an asset to the citizens of Greeneville. This specialized group is comprised of officers from the Greeneville Police Department. The Special Response Team employs a variety of special weapons and tactics not available to the regular patrolman. This unit is activated for a variety of reasons including barricaded suspects, hostage situations, and serving high risk warrants. The members of the the Special Response Team conduct regular training as well as attend specialized training sessions with other Special Response Team and Special Weapons And Tactics (S.W.A.T.) teams. Many of the specifics of the Special Response Team are kept confidential and not available to the public.

Bomb Squad

The Greeneville Police Department Bomb Squad has been an integral part of the Greeneville Police Department. The Bomb Squad safely disposes of hazardous devices, inspects suspect packages, and removes old or unsafe explosives that have been discovered by citizens. The Bomb Squad assists in special events such as the Bristol Motor Speedway National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) events. The Greeneville Police Department Bomb Squad supports several area Bomb Squads including those located in Kingsport, Johnson City, and Morristown, TN.

The Greeneville Police Department Bomb Squad Officers are Accredited Bomb Technicians that receive training at the Federal Bureau of Investigations (F.B.I.) Hazardous Devices School in Huntsville, Alabama. Each Officer assigned to this unit is required to attend a six-week basic training course. In addition, each Officer on the Bomb Squad attends a 40 hour re-certification every three years. The Officers also are required to attend a monthly 16-hour training session.
