Greeneville City Manager Todd Smith

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has appointed Greeneville City Manager Todd Smith to the Governor’s Homeland Security Council, representing the state’s City Mayors and Managers.

In a formal letter of appointment, Gov. Lee commended Smith’s qualifications, writing, “In the thorough, aggressive search for candidates, your individual characteristics and professional qualifications were exceptional among the number of nominees who expressed interest.”

Smith was selected as the Tennessee Municipal League representative on the 22-member Council, recognized for his leadership in municipal government and years of service in the Air Force National Guard.

Anthony Haynes, Executive Director of the Tennessee Municipal League remarked, “Todd Smith will bring a valuable perspective as a municipal manager to the Council. I believe he’s one of the best in our state and we’re honored to have him represent us.”

“I am honored to be chosen for this important Council and look forward to serving the citizens of Tennessee to promote their safety and security,” Smith said.

Tennessee Homeland Security Deputy Commissioner Gregory Mays also congratulated Smith on the appointment, writing, “I appreciate your willingness to serve in this important role.”

The Homeland Security Council, established by Executive Order No. 8 in 2003, collaborates with the Office of Homeland Security to plan and direct statewide homeland security initiatives. The Council works closely with local, state, and federal partners to enhance Tennessee’s preparedness and resilience.
