Town of Greeneville Removes Recycling Containers from Greene County Partnership Location
The Town of Greeneville Public Works Department has removed the recycling containers (dumpsters) located at the Greene County Partnership site, effective immediately.
This action follows continued misuse of the containers, including the improper disposal of materials and littering around the site. Posted signage on the containers clearly states: “If containers are full, please take materials to a different facility or to the Greene County Convenience Center. Please do not leave items on the ground. Thank you for your cooperation.” Despite these instructions, materials have repeatedly been left outside the containers.
Littering not only detracts from the appearance of the area but also creates broader environmental concerns. Loose materials can be carried by wind to other parts of Greeneville and enter the Town’s stormwater system, potentially causing significant drainage issues. Additionally, improper disposal can lead to soil and water contamination.
The Town reminds residents that responsible recycling helps keep Greeneville clean and protects local infrastructure and natural resources. If similar misuse continues at other Town recycling locations, additional container removals may become necessary.
The Town of Greeneville appreciates the community’s cooperation and commitment to keeping our community clean.
There are containers at the following locations in Greeneville:
• Greene County Farmer’s Co-Op at 1414 W Main St
• Greeneville Middle School at 433 E Vann Road
• Hal Henard Elementary School at 425 E Vann Road
The Greene County Convenience Centers list can be found here: https://www.greenecountytngov.com/solid-waste/
